‘UglyDolls’ is a forgettable toy commercial with a muddled message

When I first saw the trailer for the new movie “UglyDolls,” I couldn’t help but think of 2016’s “Trolls,” which was also animated, also featured a voice cast consisting of musically-talented people and also based on a kids toy line (although admittedly, at the time I had no idea UglyDolls toys even existed).

Having now seen the movie, I can say “Trolls” is not the only film it bears comparisons to, and that’s one of its biggest problems, because it never wins the comparisons, ultimately serving as a harmless, if utterly forgettable, animated feature that might entertain small children but will likely bore any adults in the audience.
