Since Taylor County voters overwhelming approved renewing the county commission’s authority to offer tax exemptions to new and expanding businesses last year, the commission has been discussing how to update and improve the county ordinance governing those exemptions.
During the resulting discussions, however, it was determined that several of the changes the commissioners wanted included in the new wording were already in the ordinance, but had not been properly enforced — such as requiring annual reports from companies receiving the exemptions.
