Back in early 2017, we got the feature film adaptation of the best-selling book “A Dog’s Purpose,” which follows a young dog named Bailey (voiced by Josh Gad) through several reincarnated lives as he strives to find his way back to his original human companion.
In my review of that film, I noted that while it was obviously made for the dog lovers among us, it was also a film that was surgically designed to make those dog lovers cry. At the time, I was a bit vague about what exactly the tear-inducing moments were, but two and a half years later I feel I can safely point out that in order to be reincarnated, one must do something else first. “A Dog’s Purpose” was a good movie, a sweet one even, but you need to go in prepared for tears.
And, more importantly, if you’re going to take your children to see the film’s newly-released sequel, “A Dog’s Journey,” you need to be sure they are emotionally prepared to witness that happen on the big screen multiple times over the course of two hours.
