Mary Elizabeth Weeks,
95, passed away May 20, 2019, in Dowling Park. Mary was born August 4, 1923, in
Knoxville, Tenn. to Richard Gross and Edith Eva Corthay Gross.
Mary was of the Protestant faith and attended the Advent Christian Church in
Dowling Park. Mary drove food trucks as a civilian for the US Army during WWII;
she later was promoted to drive officer where she chauffeured officers to and
fro. Her last job was making sport bags for Paul Pryor Sporting Bags, a former
Major League Umpire. Mary moved to Perry in 2005 to live next door to her
daughter and then moved to Dacier Manor in Dowling Park in 2010.
Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, William F. Weeks; her parents,
Richard and Edith Eva Gross; and her brothers, Richard Gross and George Gross.
Mary is survived by: her daughters, Frances Johnson and Lynn Shepard; her
brother, David Gross; two granddaughters, Amy Holland-Creed and Misty Shepard;
as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration service of Mary’s life will be held Thursday, June 20, at 10 a.m.
at the Good Samaritan Center with Pastor Jack Jones officiating. All
arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
