Marjorie Montgomery Poole, 91, went to be
with her Lord on May 23, 2019, at her home in Perry surrounded by family.
Marjorie was born February 7, 1928, in Louin, Miss., to William Oree Montgomery
and Claudia Williams Montgomery. She was the youngest of eight children.
Mrs. Poole was of the Baptist faith and was a longtime member of
First Baptist Church of Perry, where she served in many capacities, most often
in the children’s department. Marjorie had a passion for teaching small
children. She taught kindergarten at Happytime Preschool here in Perry and also
taught preschool and first grade in Mississippi. Her greatest joy was being a
homemaker, where she was a devoted wife for almost 72 years and a loving mother
to her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
“Mrs. Margie” was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
Mrs. Poole is survived by her husband Mr. Robert D. “Bob” Poole;
her daughters, Joan Brett (Gary) of Perry and Nancy Braun (Jeff) of Fort Mill,
SC; four grandchildren, Lauren Brett Rhea (Barry) of Birmingham, Ala., Amy
Brett Sherrer (Ryan) of Perry, Hayden Braun of Juneau, Alaska, and Amelia Braun
of Greenville, S.C., five great grandchildren, Charley, Caden, and Elizabeth
Rhea, and Presley and Ellie Sherrer; as well as a host of nieces and nephews,
especially Bert Close (Janeen) of Peachtree City, Ga., and Trish Close of
Peachtree City, Ga. Among those she dearly loved were her “adopted”
daughters/caregivers, Cynthia Buggs and Angela Oliver of Perry, and numerous
others.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at 4
p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Bro. Gary Brett and Pastor Steven
Ruff officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday,
May 25, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Perry. A private family burial will
take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations
to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, Fla. 32308. All
arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
