    ‘Missile’ left at Rocky’s 98

    Posted on June 5, 2019

Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies and Taylor County Fire-Rescue responded to a report of a “missile” that had been left by a fisherman at Rocky’s 98 Sunday night, triggering a store evacuation and a call to both the U.S. Air Force and State Fire Marshal’s Office.

“Turns out, the unknown ordnance was determined to be a U.S. Navy MK 25 Marker, an underwater flare used to mark objects underwater. It has an explosive device that ignites a phosphorous substance. This particular marker was determined to be armed, and significantly harmful considering the location of where it was at (a gas station),” TCSO Capt. Jimmy Cash said. “Lt. Jason Roberts with the State Fire Marshal’s Office identified the object and removed it from the premises without incident.”
