In response to annual shortfalls in the county’s solid waste budget, the Taylor County Commission is looking at a variety of options to increase revenues, including increasing the solid waste assessment, eliminating a discount given to RV sites and hunting camps in the county and charging for large loads of vegetative or construction and demolition (C&D) waste disposed of at roll-off sites.
According to County Environmental Services Director Gary Wambolt, one of the issues facing the County Solid Waste Department is the continued use of roll-off sites by city residents and commercial contractors – despite an ID card system introduced in 2018 that was intended to limit use of roll-off sites to only county residents who pay the annual assessment.
