On June 7, 2019, Raymond Paul Pettitt passed away at the age of 90. He was a devoted father, a loving husband to Bonnie Ruth (Baggett) Pettitt of 68 years and a devout Christian.
He served as head deacon at Charleston Heights Baptist Church. He was also an usher and served the First Baptist Church in Perry.
Raymond served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1948 – 1952). He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and achieved Sergeant First Class ranking in the US Army. He served as a reservist in the US Army for an additional 28 years.
Raymond is survived by: his wife, Bonnie; four children, Paul R. Pettitt, Deborah G. Richard (Pettitt), James F. Pettitt and Christopher Erwin Pettitt; grandchildren, Richie Henry L. Richard, III and wife Crystal, and Crystal Elizabeth Marie Pettitt, great-grandchildren, Christian and Colbie Richard and Arianna Jayden Marie Pettitt. Raymond is also survived by: his son-in-law, Henry Richard; siblings, Donald Pettitt of Perry and Shirley Taverno of Virginia; his sister-in-law, Gayle Phillips and Mike Phillips of Charleston, S.C.
Raymond was an accomplished farmer and always maintained a positive and humorous outlook. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing Raymond.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor
Steven Ruff officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in
Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors. The family received friends from 6-8
p.m. Monday, June 10, at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home, and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, June
11, at First Baptist Church of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction
of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
