Janie Strickland Maddox, 84, of Ocklawaha, passed away at her home Friday, June 14, 2019. Janie was born March 18, 1935, in Quitman, Ga. to Lee Strickland and Agnes Newsom Strickland.
Janie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Perry. She was a homemaker and in her spare time enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting, sewing, collecting family pictures and talking about her children and grandchildren.
Janie was preceded in death by: her parents, and a brother, William “Billy” Lee Strickland.
She is survived by: her husband of 67 years, Joseph Lamar Maddox; three sons, Dennis Maddox and spouse Theda of Elmore City, Okla., Joe Maddox and spouse Friedel of Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Gary Maddox and spouse Janice of Davis, Okla.; two daughters, Jatricia Thomas and spouse Alan of Ocklawaha, and Renita Harbison of Sorrento; her brother, Daniel C. Strickland of Quitman, Ga.; 14 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church with Bro. Tommie Stanaland officiating. Interment will be held in Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Judes Cancer Center at www.stjude.org. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
