    Guardians to protect schools

    After undergoing extensive training this summer, several non-instructional staff members will walk the halls of Taylor County schools as early as August 2019 as armed “guardians” — an invisible second line of defense behind eight school resource deputies (SRDs).

    The Taylor County School District does not intend to arm classroom teachers at this time, even though Florida Senate Bill 7030 (SB 7030) — an extension of the Guardian Program that allows instructional staff to volunteer as guardians — was signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis on May 8, 2019.
