Hazel Richardson Mickens, 84, of Perry restfully transitioned surrounded by family on June 19, 2019
She was first born daughter to the late Charlie Gray Sr. and Julia Gray, born on June 8th, 1935.
Even though she was a devoted wife and mother of nine children, Hazel had a gift to care for others. She was a nurse, caregiver and entrepreneur in her own right. She was the matriarch of the Richardson clan, leaving behind teachings to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married to the late Fred Richardson Jr., and after his death, she married the late Theodore Mickens.
She was preceded in death by: her brother, Jack Gray; son-in-law, Harold Spain; and her daughter, Beverly Richardson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: children, Bonnie (Tony), Brenda, Ola (Ray), Charles (Gail), Cletis, Julia, Fred (Melissa) and Natalia (Jason); sister, Ophelia Gray; brother, Charlie Gray Jr.; and a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren to celebrate her life.
Viewing will be held Saturday, June 22, from 3-6 p.m. at New Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. At Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery.
