Crime index rate drops 5% locally

Local law enforcement officials are celebrating a more than 5% drop in the total crime index reported last year, as well as a 42% increase in the number of arrests.

However, despite these encouraging statistics, Taylor County’s crime rate continues to rank as the 10th highest in the state of Florida, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) annual Uniform Crime Report (UCR) released last week.
