Feeling the heat

As the heat index hovered around the 100-degree mark Wednesday afternoon, city firefighters were feeling even more heat — battling a vehicle fire at The Recycling Center, located on South Byron Butler Parkway.

Thick, dark smoke boiled into the sky and blanketed the recycling center’s storage yard. Workers themselves attempted to assist in dousing the fire with water hoses before the blaze was brought under control by responding City of Perry Fire Department units.
