    Roma Hunter O’Steen

    Mrs. Roama Hunter O’Steen, 98, a lifelong resident of Perry, passed away on Saturday July 13, 2019, at her home.

    Mrs. O’Steen was born August 31, 1920, in Perry to Grover C. Hunter and Martha Rowell Hunter. She was a graduate of Taylor County High School.

    Mrs. O’Steen was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Perry. She worked as a legal secretary with the Taylor County Judges Office for 19 years and also taught typing at Taylor Technical Institute.

    Mrs. O’Steen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was very intelligent and had an extraordinary memory. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke. In her spare time she enjoyed camping, playing games, and gardening.
    Mrs. O’Steen was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, J.A. O’Steen; a daughter, Frieda O’Steen Carlton; a grandaughter, Shelly O’Steen Strickland; a grandson, John Wiley Carlton; three brothers, Dewey, Eddie and Cecil Hunter; and a sister, Annie Hunter Cruce.

    She is survived by: a son, Michael S. O’Steen, and wife, Donna; one granddaughter, Lisa O’Steen Arrowood, and husband, Danny; four great-grandchildren, Lauren Arrowood, Michael K. Strickland, Garrett Arrowood, and Jessica Strickland Howard; two great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Chloe Strickland, all of Perry; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the Burns Memorial Chapel with Bro. Tommie Stanaland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
