Valerie A. Cardona, 67,
passed away July 19, 2019 at her home in Shady Grove surrounded by her family.
Valerie was born March 2, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio to William Morris and Arline
Metti Morris.
Valerie honorably served our country in the United States Air Force during the
Gulf War era. She retired after 21 years as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Valerie was of the
Methodist faith and was a member of Lake Bird Methodist Church. She was a registered
nurse for over 35 years with the Air Force and as a civilian. She enjoyed
gardening and was an avid snow skier and roller skater. She loved animals,
especially her golden retrievers.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Arline Morris.
Valerie is survived by: the love of her life, Ralph “Buzz” Powers; her daughter,
Teresa Cardona of Austin, Texas; her sister, Claudette Russo (Frank), and her
brother Lance Morris (Robin); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Valerie’s life will be held Thursday, July 25, at 5 p.m. at
Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Pastor Wallace Holmes officiating. The family
will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service. All arrangements
are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. In lieu of flowers,
those who wish can make donations to Covenant Care in Valerie’s honor.
