Shelter opens on the heels of mutual agreement regarding operation

Less than two weeks before Steinhatchee School became a “shelter of last resort” for residents flooded out of their homes, the Taylor County Commission and Taylor County School District approved a new interlocal agreement on how emergency shelters utilizing local schools would be run.

The agreement spells out the various duties of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Emergency Management department, Taylor County government and the school district — much of which was already in place, if not in writing.
