    City raises utility, tax rates

    Posted on August 30, 2019

City Manager Taylor Brown (right) helps explain a budget proposal to Councilwoman Shirlie Hampton during Tuesday’s meeting. The council will hold public hearings on its proposed budget on Tuesday, Sept. 10 and Tuesday, Sept. 24.

City residents, businesses and utility customers can expect to see an estimated $90 increase in their annual bills, after the Perry City Council voted 3-1 on a proposal that will raise utility rates across the board for natural gas, garbage, water and sewer.

The new rates, if approved during the final budget hearing set in late September, would be reflected on customers’ October bills. (The city’s fiscal year runs October to September).
