‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ is one of 2019’s sweetest and best films

The first new film of 2019 I saw in theatres — that wasn’t an Oscar holdover from 2018 — was “The Upside,” inspired by a true story of two disparate people meeting in unusual circumstances and ultimately having profound impacts on each other’s lives. I really enjoyed that movies, both for its uplifting story and its strong performances.

Now, more than halfway through the year, we have “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” which tells a fictional tale about two disparate characters meeting in unusual circumstances and ultimately having profound impacts on each other’s lives. The particulars of the two stories couldn’t be more different, but both films deliver heartwarming stories that will stay with you long after you leave the theater.

This is not to take anything away from “The Upside,” but “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” which does have one of the most unusual titles of any film this year, is the better film, and has a strong chance of making my Top 10 list for 2019.
