City to step up code enforcement

The City of Perry plans to take a more aggressive approach to code enforcement and will look at the steps required to seize properties that have accrued thousands of dollars in violation fines.

Council members set the new directive last week, after reviewing the city’s current code enforcement policy “which is more a reactionary approach than proactive – you wait for complaints to come in and then the code enforcement officer investigates,” City Manager Taylor Brown said.
