Alice Leona ‘Shuge’ Mangum, 92, passed away
on August 29, 2019 in Tallhassee. Shuge was born August 9, 1927, in Athena,
Fla., to Walter James Howard and Mattie Lou Towles Howard.
Shuge was of the Christian faith and was a member of St. James
Episcopal Church. Shuge worked as Licensed Practical Nurse with Dr. Dyal for
many, many years, and then later with Doctors Memorial Hospital, and with the
hospital auxiliary after she retired. She also served on the Board of Directors
at the hospital. Shuge served as a Taylor County commissioner and was an active
member of the Perry Garden Club. She was also elected as woman of the year for
Taylor County.
Shuge was preceded in death by her husband Bevis Mangum, her
parents Walter James and Mattie Lou Howard, brother Oscar Howard, and two
sisters, Mary Inman and Erma Lou Masters.
Shuge is survived by her sons, Mack (Sherilyn) Mangum and Gary
Mangum; 2 grandchildren, Alanna (Robert) Wood, and Ben (Jessie) Mangum; 5 great
grandchildren, Emma, Anna, Sam, Tyson, and Carlie; as well as a host of nieces
and nephews, and many, many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at
11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Interment services will follow
immediately afterwards in Pineview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Burns Funeral
Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home
of Perry.
