Odis Laverne “Vern” Murphy

Mr. Odis Laverne “Vern” Murphy, 65, of Perry, passed away on September 4, 2019, in Tallahassee. Mr. Murphy was born July 6, 1954, in Perry to Mr. Odis Murphy and Myrtice Sistrunk Atwell. He retired as a Department Manager from the Perry Wal-Mart, having worked there since it opened. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching college football and rooting for his favorite team, the Florida Gators. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Marlene Murphy, and his stepfather, Harold Atwell.

He is survived by; his mother, Myrtice Atwell, of Perry; a daughter, Nichole Wilder, and husband Clay, of Perry; a son, Duane Murphy, and fiancé’ Mary White, of Jacksonville; two brothers, Alan Murphy, and wife Charlotte, and Buddy Murphy, and wife Tina, all of Perry; one granddaughter, Faye Lynn Murphy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Gipson officiating. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
