Former Perry man killed in Gainesville

The United States Marshal’s Service and the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) are still searching for the suspect in the July 15 shooting death of former Perry resident Samuel Lee Hamilton Jr. in Gainesville.

According to GPD, just after 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 15, the department received multiple 911 calls reporting a person shot in the area of Southern Pines Apartments (4125 SW 17th Pl.). Multiple GPD officers arrived and established a perimeter in the area with assistance from deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s office. Officers located Hamilton, 37, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.
