The best movies tend to have a definite purpose behind them. I don’t mean a theme or a message, but there is a reason the story needs to be told. Even films whose stories seem aimless can still feel impactful or necessary.
Sometimes, however, films seem confused about their purpose, and the result is a meandering story that not only goes nowhere in particular, it seems to contradict itself along the way.
That was the case with “Before You Know It,” a small indie film with an intriguing premise, but no real drive to take that premise anywhere actually interesting.
