Dreamworks delivers another beautiful, heartfelt animated film in ‘Abominable’

It’s not uncommon in the world of Hollywood for two films with a very similar premise to hit theaters in a short amount of time. Examples include “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon,” “White House Down” and “Olympus Has Fallen” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Mirror Mirror.”

Less common is getting three movies in short succession about the same topic, but that is what we have with “Smallfoot” and “Abominable” arriving almost exactly one year apart and “Missing Link” hitting theaters in between back in April. All three are animated films about yetis or Bigfoot.

Fortunately, each movie approaches the subject in a different way, and all three are enjoyable because of these differences.

In the case of “Abominable,” the latest animated film from Dreamworks, the story follows a young Chinese girl named Yi (Chloe Bennet, “Agents of SHIELD”), who discovers a yeti hiding on the roof of her apartment building. The yeti, which she names Everest, has escaped the clutches of an eccentric adventurer (Eddie Izzard, “The Riches”).
