Raymond Earl Pickron, 81, passed away from
this life to the next on October 25, 2019, at his home in Perry. Mr. Pickron
was born April 19, 1938, in Blountstown to Whit Pickron and Nellie (Comerford)
Pickron.
He attended Midway Baptist Church in Perry.
Prior to moving to Perry in 1966, Raymond lived and worked in
Highland View, Fla., for local fisheries and the box plant. Upon arrival in
Perry, he worked as a truck driver for local businesses before joining with his
son, Phillip Tharpe, as co-owner/operator of Tharpe and Pickron Automotive
beginning in September 1977. He enjoyed serving his community as a mechanic
until retirement in 2004. His favorite earthly hobbies were fresh water fishing
with his good friend, Sonny Peacock and meeting his buddies at the Huddle House
for morning coffee.
Survivors include: his wife of nearly six years, Carol Slaughter
Pickron; two daughters, Shirley Tharpe Shinholser (Wayne) of Tallahassee and
Linda Tharpe Oaks (John) of Navarre; two sons, Joe Tharpe (Lavonne) and Ricky
Tharpe (Karen) both of Perry; a daughter-in-law Judy Tharpe (Phillip), of
Perry; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces,
nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Rhames
Tharpe Pickron; one son, Phillip Tharpe; one grandson, Kevin Shinholser; as
well as, his parents, Whit and Nellie, and his siblings, Chester, Hubert, Viola
Pitts and Ola Griffin.
A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, October 29 at 11
a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Bro. Mark Pargo and Bro. Harold Reams
officiating. The family received friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday,
October 29, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under the
direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. In lieu of flowers, contributions can
be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Raymond Pickron.
