    William Gary Mears

    Mr. William Gary Mears, 69, passed away on Nov. 24, 2019, in Tallahassee.

    Gary was born Dec. 10, 1949 in Columbus, Ga., to Mr. Robert Hayes Mears and Willowdean Kirkland Mears.

    Gary served with the Columbus, Ga., fire department and retired as a lieutenant after 32 years. He then became a charter captain and had his own charter service, “Limited Out Charters,” on the Econfina River. As a charter captain he would take marine biologists out into the Gulf to conduct water salinity tests and to inspect the overall condition of the regional estuaries.

    Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Willowdean Mears, and his brother, Jerry Eugene Mears.

    He is survived by: his wife, Joann; brother, Billy Mears; one son, Gary Paul Mears; and his two dogs, Bobo and Annie Sue.

    A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.

    Lewis Harold Thomas

    Lewis Harold Thomas , 91, of Perry passed away on Nov. 21, 2019 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Brother Steve McHargue officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Pineview Memorial Cemetery.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
