Unrelated deaths had similar causes

The medical examiner’s office has ruled that the unrelated deaths of Bruce Wayne Smith, 48, of Lake County, and Eric James Edwards, 34, formerly of Naples, were both accidental with the same contributing factor – drugs in their systems.

Smith’s body was found off Loren Henderson Road in Taylor County on Sept. 21 after an extensive 11- day search that began when his vehicle was found abandoned in the middle of Red River Road on Sept. 10.
