    Raymond Alan McGowan

    Mr. Raymond Alan McGowan, 78, passed away on Dec. 8, 2019, in Monticello.

    Raymond was born July 13, 1941, in Tampa to John Carl McGowan and Ruth Schmidt McGowan.

    He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Crisis. While serving in the Navy, he was a rescue diver and a battle helmsman on the U.S.S. Perry.

    fter serving in the Navy he moved from Tampa to Perry in 1978 where he met and married his wife of 39 years, Golla.

    He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling with his wife. They traveled all over the U.S. and there were only four states that they did not visit.

    Raymond was preceded in death by: his parents, John and Ruth McGowan; and a sister, Barbara Fudge.

    He is survived by: his wife, Golla McGowan; stepdaughters, Diane Bass, Barbara Weaver and her husband, Luke, and Brenda Blanton; a special grandson, Ryan Blanton; brothers, Richard McGowan and Jerry McGowan; and several other grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Jesse High officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home.
