Body scan reveals contraband — cell phones and drugs

An inmate at Taylor Correctional Institution (TCI) was booked at the local jail last week on charges stemming from a smuggling incident that occurred in April when two cell phones were discovered concealed on his person following a body scan.

Tommie Merchant, 34, was charged with two counts of introduction of contraband on Dec. 6 before being released back into the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections.
