New trout rules take effect Feb. 1

Despite protests voiced by local charter fishing captains, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) last week unanimously approved a series of new spotted seatrout regulations that take effect Feb. 1.

Although the local daily bag limit will remain at five fish, the new rules include several provisions that captains said will have a negative impact on the local economy well beyond their own livelihoods.
