‘The seat belts saved us’

A family of four escaped “without a scratch” after their SUV and travel trailer overturned on Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 19 South near Robert Odum Road.

The driver of the vehicle, Malachai Schang, 31, of Gainesville, credited seat belts with saving his life and the lives of his wife and two young children. The crash happened when the trailer lost a right rear tire, causing Schang to lose control of the vehicle. The family was returning home to Gainesville following a trip to Pensacola.
