Richmond Gary Cannon passed peacefully on Dec. 28, 2019, in Perry, at the age of 66.
He was a lifelong resident of Taylor County, born to Rev. R.C. and Doris Cannon on April 21, 1953. He is survived by the love of his life, Barbara Mock Cannon, with whom he enjoyed traveling, going to church and spending time in fellowship with friends and family. Gary was known for his beautiful singing voice and kindness to others.
Gary was a Vietnam veteran who served his country as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he served with the Army National Guard. Gary worked in law enforcement for more than 20 years, Ware Oil & Supply Company for 12 years and Beggs Funeral Home for four years.
Gary leaves behind his children, Gary Heath Cannon (Tiffanie), Chad Day (Kelly), Jerry Frith, Jr. (Lipika), Katie Cannon Logan (Pastor Dustin), and Lisa Edwards (Tommy); 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; one sister, Becky Cruce (J.L.); his uncle, Earl Cannon; and two aunts, Doris Moffat and Rachael Walker.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. R.C. and Doris Cannon, and Leon Bethea, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Jan. 11, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Brother Billy Gipson in Perry.
In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the Cannon Fund at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
