‘Stolen’ car takes out traffic light

A Perry woman, who took a friend’s car without permission Sunday night, didn’t get too far before crashing head-on into a power pole and bringing down a traffic light at a heavily-traveled intersection in the city.

Melissa Gay Cooper, 40, escaped serious injury when she “center-punched” a light pole at the intersection of Veterans Drive and Center Street around 8 p.m., causing the light attached to the pole to come crashing down in the center of the street.
