Carnice “Pete” Thurman,
80, passed away on February 12, 2020, in Mayo. Pete was born November 14, 1939,
in Martinsville, Va., to Taswell C. Thurman and Odell Hall Thurman.
Pete honorably served our country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a
Christian of the Baptist faith. Pete spent his adult life as a civil servant in
the State of Florida, serving with the Florida Fish and Wildlife, as a Florida
State Trooper, Perry Fire Dept. and Perry Police Dept., and retired from Taylor
County Sheriffs Dept. after 26 years.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Taswell C. and Odell Thurman and his
wife Linda Thurman.
Mr. Thurman is survived by his three children Teresa (Wayne) Sumrall, Linda Ann
(Anthony) Jordan and Chad Thurman and daughter-in-law Melanie Thurman; his
brothers Gerald Thurman and Tommy Thurman, both of Virginia, and Kenny Thurman
of Starke; four grandchildren Michelle Sumrall, Jessica Sumrall, Brandin
Thurman and Bella Thurman; five great-grandchildren Sebastian, McKenzie, Kyler,
Mason and Maci; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral
Home of Perry with Pastor Wallace Holmes officiating and the Taylor County
Sheriff Dept. Honor Guard. Private Interment services will be held at a later
date at Pisgah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
on Friday, Feb. 14 at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. All arrangements are under
the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
