Mr. Robert “Bob” David Poole, 94, passed away on Feb.18, 2020, in Perry.
He was born June 6, 1925, in Electric Mills, Miss., to Mr. Leland Caldwell Poole and Annie Bell Holder Poole.
Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Following his discharge from the Army, he met and married Marjorie Montgomery during his junior college years at Jones County Jr. College in Ellisville, Miss.
From there he attended school at Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss., graduating with a degree in chemical engineering.
Upon graduation he accepted a job with Proctor and Gamble Corp. in Memphis, Tenn., and later transferred to be a part of the startup of the Foley Paper Mill in Perry. His career there spanned nearly 35 years.
He had a heart for service, volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, FCA, Upward Sports and served in many leadership capacities at First Baptist Church of Perry.
In retirement, one of his favorite roles was grandparenting.
Bob was preceded in death by: his wife of almost 72 years Marjorie Montgomery Poole; his parents, Leland and Annie Bell Poole; and one sister, Betty Ann Berry.
He is survived by: two daughters, Joan Brett and her husband, Gary, and Nancy Braun and her husband, Jeff, of Fort Mill, S.C.; four grandchildren, Lauren Brett Rhea and husband, Barry, of Birmingham, Ala., Amy Brett Sherrer and her husband, Ryan, of Perry, Hayden Braun of Fort Mill, S.C., and Amelia Braun of Greenville, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Charley, Caden and Elizabeth Rhea of Birmingham, Ala., and Presley and Ellie Sherrer of Perry, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, especially Bert Close (Janeen) and Trish Close, both of Peachtree City, Ga.
Among those he dearly loved were his “adopted” daughters/caregivers, Cynthia Buggs and Angela Oliver of Perry, and numerous others.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Steven Ruff, Captain Gene Carter and Gary Brett officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Today (Friday) at First Baptist Church of Perry.
