In what local officials are calling the first step in a much larger effort to alleviate flooding concerns across the county, the Taylor County Commission is seeking more than $1.6 million in state and federal funding for a project to help the flood-prone area of 1st Avenue in Steinhatchee.
At the board’s March 2 meeting, the commission agreed to seek $1,228,500 through the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s (FDEM) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).
