As parents ended their first day of navigating the sometimes choppy waters of distance learning with their children Monday, they received surprising news – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he had extended the mandatory closures of all public schools until May 3.
The previous mandate closed schools through April 15.
“Over the next few days, I will be working with site-based administrators to roll out a plan to continue and enhance remote learning in Taylor County. This will include addressing technological needs that Taylor County students may have,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Danny Glover Jr. said.
“As we move into this next phase, I will continue to ask that everyone offers grace and compassion to the employees of the Taylor County School District as we move forward in this next phase of remote learning. We will do the best we can to continue to serve all of Taylor County students to the best of our ability, ensuring they have every possible educational resource available,” he said.
Just last Thursday, district personnel rode school buses to hand-deliver student packets at bus stops throughout the county.
Students packets were also available for pickup at individual schools in the county.
