Schools announce next round of class material distributions

    Posted on April 3, 2020

The Taylor County School District is moving into its second week of distance learning, and individual schools have announced the next round distribution of classroom materials for students:

    Taylor County Primary School

Taylor County Primary School (TCPS) will be providing learning packets based on grade level standards. Teachers are available to assist parents and students with any questions or concerns. All learning packets will be ready for pick up Tuesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tables will be placed outside of the TCPS front office with packets assorted by grade level. Parents can park in the front preschool parking lot to gain access to the packets.

For the families that have no transportation to get to the school, packets will be delivered by bus on Wednesday, April 8.

If you need a packet delivered please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible.

    Taylor County Elementary School

Taylor County Elementary School (TCES) will be sending home students’ consumable books in a similar process to how it delivered the iReady packets last week. The current pick up schedule is Tuesday, April 7, and Thursday, April 9, from 9-11 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

Bus deliveries will be made Wednesday, April 8.

“We really want to encourage parents to only have the bus deliver their bags if they do not have a means to get to the school during the four times that we have available,” Principal Sabrina Lytle said.

“Moving forward from April 15, individual teachers will be providing instruction and assignments for their students. You will need to make sure you have been in contact with your child’s teacher, via Class DOJO, email, text or phone call. If you have not been in touch with your child’s teacher over the last few weeks, please call the school at 838-2530 and leave a message with the front office staff,” she said.

There will be drop off boxes in the TCES pickup line starting Monday, April 6, for parents to return their child’s work.

    Middle School

Taylor County Middle School (TCMS) will continue to provide online and pencil-paper resources for students for science, social studies, math, language arts and reading.

Teachers will continue to be available to students and parents through phone, text or e-mail.

Reading and math packets will be available Tuesday, April 7, through Thursday, April 9, for parents who wish to pick up pencil-paper packets and feel safe doing so.

“We will also offer the same packets online or distribute them through the email. We are being as proactive as possible and will provide enough online or pencil-paper instruction to last through the end of the school year if needed,” TCMS Principal Kiki Puhl said.

“We would like to make this process as simple as possible for all involved. Please remember that if you have questions, contact your child’s teachers,” Puhl added.

    Taylor County High School

According to Principal Heather McCoy, Taylor County High School plans to continue to deliver instruction through Google classroom or by physical packets of work for core subjects.

The packets will cover one full week and will be distributed on Monday and due the following Monday.

The only students who will need to pick up a packet on Monday, April 6 are those who do not have internet access or a device to work on. Assignments are the same through both methods of delivery.

“We will continue to contact students and parents as needed to assist with work collection and delivery,” McCoy added.

“If you have questions about specific assignments, please email your teacher and they will get back in touch with you. The bins for assignments will be in front of the main entrance of the high school.”

“Updates are available on our website and the TCHS Facebook page. There will be someone available to answer questions during normal school hours from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until we resume normal operations,” she added.
