    Posted on April 8, 2020

Mr. Wendell H. Rogers, 81, passed away on April 4, 2020, at his home in Perry.

Wendell was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Hendersonville, N.C., to Mr. Harry L. Rogers and Alfa Lance Rogers.

Wendell was a hardworking man who loved God, his family and his country. He spent the early part of his career in Miami with Winn Dixie, where he worked his way from bag boy to supervisor overseeing multiple large stores. He left Winn Dixie in 1982 and relocated to Taylor County.

After a few years, he decided to pursue his love of plants and began a career as business development & public relations representative with Young’s Plant Farm of Alabama, where he eventually retired.  He also served as a deacon at both Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church in Miami and First Baptist Church in Perry.

When not working, he spent time with his family and attended every soccer game and sporting event to cheer his daughters.

He continued the tradition by watching his grandchildren as they played sports and showed livestock with 4-H.  Once the grandchildren came along, his favorite place to be was at the dinner table with the whole family, laughing and enjoying each other.

Wendell was preceded in death by: his father, Harry Lee Rogers; step-mother, Lois; his mother, Alfa Lance Ingle; and his daughter, Dawn Lee Palavecino.

He is survived by: his wife, Donna Lynn Rogers; four daughters, Lyne’ Rogers Brown (Pat Williams), Wendy Rogers Hathcock (Randy), Debra Leann Trofemuk (Joe) and Katherine Lesha Aman (Lamar); 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry Bundy Lee Rogers; and three sisters, Patricia Ann Drake, Harrietta Melanie Wilson and Phyllis Leshea Durham; as well as a host of nieces

    and nephews.

All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
