    Emergency orders give local candidates some leeway when collecting signatures

    Less than a month remains before the May 11 deadline facing local candidates to have their petitions turned in to avoid having to pay the qualifying fee to run for office this year.

    However, what is typically a simple process of collecting signatures and turning them in to the Supervisor of Elections office has become significantly more complicated this year due to the challenges presented by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
