Marshall clears the air and dispels circulating rumors

    Posted on April 15, 2020

A Marshall Health and Rehabilitation Center official is clearing the air and dispelling rumors concerning reports the local facility has accepted any out-of-county transfers who have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to Jennifer Trapp, vice president of Consulate Health Care, the owner of Marshall Health and Rehabilitation, there is “absolutely no validity to the information received.”

After receiving several unconfirmed reports regarding patients or residents testing positive for COVID-19 (or awaiting test results) having been transferred to (or placed in isolation at) the local facility, Perry Newspapers reached out to Marshall Health and Rehabilitation this week.

One caller alleged a patient had passed away here after being transferred in from another county and being quarantined for three days at the local facility, however Trapp denied the allegation, and the local Florida Department of Health office confirmed that Taylor County still has just one positive test result – a 29-year-old female “who is doing well and is checked on daily” (see related story).

“At this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in our center,” Trapp said. “While we will not speculate on the source of the information, we want to emphasize that we will continue to go above and beyond to keep our residents and staff safe.”

“Our dedicated caregivers are working night and day, often leaving their own families to care for our family of residents, and we thank them for their service and heroic efforts,” Trapp said.

Trapp said Marshall Health and Rehabilitation is following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines and is working in close partnership with local and state healthcare agencies to safeguard the center against the threat of the virus.

“If families have concerns about their loved one, we encourage them to contact the care center directly. We appreciate the support of everyone who stands with us in our commitment to keeping staff and patient well-being as our highest priority,” Trapp said.
