    Zara Arthur ‘Moe’ Brannen

    Zara Arthur “Moe” Brannen, 89, passed away on April 22, 2020. in Gainesville.

    Moe was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Fitzgerald, Ga., to James Washington Brannen and Nellie Mae Millican Brannen.

    Moe honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War for four years. Mr. Brannen was a longtime member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He worked as master mechanic for Buckeye Cellulose for 20 years. He later became a welder and did millwright work with the Sheet Metal Union building nuclear power plants.

    Moe had a knack for gardening and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He took pleasure in keeping up his yard, from mowing grass to trimming trees. He loved to help other folks, within his means; he would see that they were taken care of.

    Arthur was preceded in death by: his parents, James Washington and Nellie Mae Millican Brannen; his brothers, James, Yancie and Wiley Brannen; and his sister, Elizabeth Brannen.

    Mr. Brannen is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Imogene Brannen; his children, Leonard (Pat) Brannen, Steve (Latrell) Brannen and Brenda (Jim) Kuhn; nine grandchildren, Caleb, Randy, Amanda, Renae, Elaine, Tonya, Ben, Chris and Erin; and six great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many good friends.

    Private family services were be held at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with the Rev. Chris Arnold officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterward in Pisgah Cemetery.

    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
