Recently, many local anglers have been reporting an increasing number of smooth puffer fish (Lagocephalus laevigatus) being reeled in while fishing the Taylor County flats.
The weird-looking, sometimes puffed-up fish are also known as “puffers,” “rabbitfish” or “blowfish,” got their name due to their defensive reaction of puffing up with water to ward off predators and are hated by anglers for biting the tails off artificial baits.
