    Posted on May 1, 2020

Taylor County High School (TCHS) will host a series of individual graduation ceremonies for seniors beginning Monday, May 18, and continuing through Thursday, May 21.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, this year’s non-traditional ceremony will be broken into four components with the JROTC Color Guard presentation and speeches from the valedictorian, salutatorian speeches and senior class president filmed being filmed the week of May 18.

“On Tuesday, May 19, Wednesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 21, we plan to video students walking across the stage and photograph them receiving their diplomas from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Danny Glover Jr. Graduating seniors and four of their family members will be in the gym for their graduation ceremony. School board members will be handing students and their families a white rose with a congratulatory note,” TCHS Principal Heather McCoy said.

“Students and their families will be given a number and a time to come to the school, and will be asked to stay in their cars until it is their turn to come in. We will also have the photographer available to take pictures of them with their families before they leave the gym,” she said.

Students will receive the graduation ceremony times when they pick up their cap and gowns Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8.

“We will have four sessions of pick-up with textbook collection and the opportunity to pay senior bills as needed those two days. Included in their cap/gown will be a date and time for the graduating senior and four of their family members to come to the TCHS gym for their graduation ceremony,” McCoy said.

The cap and gown pick-up schedule is:

    • Thursday, May 7: 10 a.m. to noon for students with last names beginning with A-C and 1-3 p.m. for students with last names beginning with D-H.

    • Friday, May 8: 9-11 a.m. for students with last names beginning with J-M and noon to 2 p.m. for students with last names beginning with P-Y.

The school will host a virtual Senior Awards Night on FaceBook Live Tuesday, May 12.

Capping off the graduation celebrations will be a Senior Class Parade planned Friday, May 29, through downtown Perry, starting at 6 p.m.
