    John L. Jackson Jr.

    John L. Jackson Jr., 85, of Shady Grove died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

    He was born in Taylor County to James Carlton Jackson and Zella Agnes (Morgan) Jackson.

    Mr. Jackson was a diesel engineer and a longtime member and deacon at Sirmans Baptist Church. He loved the church.

    Mr. Jackson was happily married for 64 years to his wife, Phyllis Ann Driggers Jackson. He had a heart of gold, and loved to fish and cook for family gatherings and outings.

    During his career, he worked for Lee Cypress in Perry, Lane Dredging in Gibsonton and Sportscraft in Perry.

    Mr. Jackson is survived by: his wife Phyllis; a son, John L. Jackson III (Tonia) of Monticello; four daughters, Brenda Wilson of Shady Grove, Janet Jackson (J.P. Tuten) of Greenville, Valerie Reeves (Don) of Alabama and JonnaLeigh Pate (Lewis) of Perry; a brother, J.W. Jackson (Jeanette) of Kathleen, Ga.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren as well as his beloved dog, Gidget.

    Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by: his parents; son-in-law, Jimmy Wilson; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Jean Jackson; two sisters, Louise Burke and Dovie Jackson; two granddaughters; Jennifer Marie Melson and Kasey Lynn Jackson; and grandson, Opey Pate.

    Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, April 30, 2 p.m. at Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

    Beggs Funeral Home in Perry is assisting the family with arrangements.
