    Billy Ray Simpson

    Billy Ray Simpson, 85, passed away on May 5, 2020, in Gainesville.

    Billy was born July 4, 1934, in Baconton, Ga., to Byron Simpson and Eunice Redmond Simpson.

    Billy honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was of the Protestant faith and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Perry.

    He was the owner/operator of Simpson and Son Logging for more than 30 years.

    Billy loved gardening, and he taught horticulture at the Taylor Vocational School for several years. He also loved to fish, attending Bible studies, visiting with his friends and family and telling stories.

    Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Simpson and Eunice Redmond Simpson, and one brother, Connell Simpson.

    Billy is survived by: three sons, Michael Simpson of Moultrie, Ga., Steven Simpson and his wife, Olivia, of Mandeville, La., and William Simpson and his wife, Cindy, of Perry; his twin sister, Ona Palmer; sister-in-law, Datha Simpson; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Private services will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
