    Posted on June 4, 2020

Corine Scott Howell was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Perry to Elmo and Indiana Scott.

She graduated in 1945 from Jerkins High School as valedictorian.

Corine became a born-again, baptized believer in 1938 and joined St. Peter P.B. Church.

In 1944, she became a member of New Mount Zion M.B. Church, where she worshipped and served faithfully in various capacities of the church.

For years she was a part of the Taylor County Union, serving as Bible instructor.

As a pastor’s wife, she graciously served as first lady of the following churches: Springhill M.B. Church in Perry, First Elizabeth M.B. Church in Quincy and 35 years at St. John M.B. Church in Tallahassee.

She would proudly teach God’s Word, but would boldly stand in the pulpit and preach when programmed.

Her compassion for people made her establish a Godly bond with those she knew.

Corine was a member of First Bethlehem Baptist Association for more than 50 years. She served in many capacities, including the Womens’ Department President of the association for nine years and was honored as an emeritus member who had served in the association for more than 25 years.

Mother Howell was called to glory on June 1, 2020, surrounded by her family.

Corine will remain forever in the hearts of her children: Bettye (Carl) Staten, Sandra (George) Clayton, Sheron Stephens, Ranita Howell and adopted daughter Evangelist Miner Brookins; as well as two sisters, Juanita Scott and Laura Reaves; sisters-in-law Bettye Scott, Norma Scott and Doris Scott; one brother, Alphonso (Betsy) Dowdell; grandchildren, Carlene, Stacie (James), Xavier, Karla, Regina, Tieon (Rebecca), Zondra, George II, Samuel, Sterling (Leigh), Aaron and Nye; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grands, nieces and nephews, a special cousin, the Rev. J.B. (Teresa) Duval; two special friends, Rose Mary Demps and Deborah Flowers; other cousins and friends of the East Perry Community.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Springhill Cemetery.

All services will adhere to CDC guidelines.

Trinity Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
