The local Georgia-Pacific (GP) Foley Cellulose mill has announced plans to “temporarily idle” two of three production lines and lay off or eliminate nearly 30% of its workforce as a result of the worldwide economic downturn and reduced product demand created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employees were informed of the news during a plant-wide meeting held at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning in a new warehouse building.
