New 448 area code

A new area code – 448 – has been approved for the area currently served by 850 and the addition brings with it a change to the way landline customers will dial out for local calls.

Beginning Aug. 22, the new dialing procedure will require callers to dial the area code and telephone number. This means that all calls in the 850 area code that are currently dialed using seven digits will need to be dialed using the area code and phone number.
