    Jo Ann Glascoe

    Posted on July 2, 2020

Jo Ann Glascoe, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 30, 2020.

Jo Ann was born April 24, 1942 in Perry to Norman C. Hendry and Janette Howell Hendry.

She was educated in the Taylor County public school system and, after earning her associate’s degree from North Florida Junior College, she was recruited by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to work as a payroll clerk in Washington, D.C.

After leaving the government, Jo Ann accepted a position with AT&T where she climbed the ranks and retired as a supervisor after 23 years of dedicated service. She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

After retiring, she moved back to Perry to help care for her family. Jo Ann was a passionate advocate for senior citizens in Taylor County as a volunteer for the Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE) program, for which she earned the 2012 “Volunteer of the Year” award from the Area Agency on Aging for North Florida.

Jo Ann marveled in the beauty of the outdoors, developing an affection and gift for gardening and transforming the yard of each home she owned into an outdoor sanctuary. She delighted watching and feeding birds that would nest on the serene grounds she and her husband created.

She loved listening to gospel hymns, reading and sewing in her free time, and delighted in all things Christmas. A beloved wife and devoted mother and grandmother, she treasured quality time with her family baking cookies, making homemade bows, playing games, writing beautiful cards and notes of encouragement, traveling and making priceless memories.

The only thing greater than her love of family was her love for God. Jo Ann was of the Methodist faith and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Perry and their church choir. She cherished spending time studying His Word and in fellowship at Sunday School and in multiple weekly Bible studies. Her love of life, infectious smile, selfless spirit and endearing laugh brought joy to all those who were blessed to personally know her.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Janette Hendry, and her brother, Alton Hendry.

She is survived by: her husband of 55 years, Jim Glascoe; her daughters, Laurinda Paige Purcell (Steven) and Allison Leigh Huber (Patrick); five grandchildren, Joshua Steven Purcell, Jacob Mackenzie Purcell, Steven Aaron Purcell, Caleigh Grace Huber and Ryan Patrick Huber; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Mae Purcell and Amelia Grace Purcell; her brothers, Edwin Hendry, Aaron Hendry, Jerry Hendry and Larry Hendry; and her sister, Dorthy Hendry; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Perry with Pastor Wallace Holmes officiating. Interment services will follow immediately afterward in Hendry Family Cemetery in Shady Grove.

The family will receive friends today (Friday) from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.

Social distancing will be followed at both services, and masks are required per family request.

All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. Friends may sign the online guest book at www.joepburnsfuneralhomes.com
